OnModus is in constant pursuit of new and innovative ways to add value for our clients. Our recent efforts to develop our data processing and analytics competency has led to the discovery of a new opportunity just around the corner. We are therefore proud to announce a partnership between OnModus and The Data Story, a data analysis and visualisation company based in Heiloo, the Netherlands.
Our new partner sources its value from knowing how to create actionable insights out of data. Jeroen Bakker, Data Analyst at The Data Story, starts the conversation. ‘The Data Story focuses on telling business stories that are based on data. By carrying out a strong analysis, The Data Story can translate a company’s USPs, key process points or the unique characteristics of a customer group into insight and strategy.’ The Data Story and OnModus already validated a company fit when they recently worked together for one of OnModus' clients in the clothing & fashion industry.
Both companies come together to express their vision of the partnership: ‘We are joining forces because OnModus makes sure the infrastructure is capable, while The Data Story creates insights and visualisations. Using the right infrastructure, we both translate the insights and visualisations into an actionable system that produces value through connected channels or a preferred output list. That’s basically what we’re ultimately focusing on. Going from painful systems, through difficult data analytics, towards a valuable end product.’
Alexandru Sabau, Digital Project Manager & lead in analytics efforts at OnModus, joins the conversation. ‘We have adopted Alteryx, a self-service analytics tool, as our primary tool to empower entire organisations’ data and analytics processes. By using it to blend and process separate data sources into a central data repository, we can create that 360° view of the customer, which can align entire departments on customer centricity,’ he says. ‘Furthermore, we can focus on increasing stakeholders’ analytics knowledge through Alteryx's intuitive and easy-to-understand workflow system. But creating the script architecture with Alteryx is sometimes not enough to create actionable insights for our clients. We need a partner that knows how to take a noisy data set and translate it into true insight for stakeholders. By bringing the Tableau competency into play, The Data Story can create a synergistic relationship with Alteryx and offer a unique value proposition.’ Indeed, Alteryx and Tableau have been known to create a one-of-a kind infrastructure, supported by a built-in integration.
So, what does this infrastructure solution look like? ‘It all starts with the pain point of clients not knowing how to bring data together from different channels and repositories within their company,’ Alexandru explains. ‘Using Alteryx's highly customisable in-connectors, we can create scripts that blend, clean and prepare different data sources with different formats into a master data set. Then, to ensure a low maintenance and low optimisation solution, we make sure the scripts are dynamic and scalable to future incoming data. Time and cost for script management is thus ultimately reduced.’
Jeroen continues: ‘after the Alteryx infrastructure creates the master data, you still have data that doesn't give stakeholders insightful information. That's where Tableau picks up the process. By being able to process large and rich data sets and then use various visualisation tools in dashboards, Tableau provides an easy way to show where value can be found in the data, how the process is going and what should happen next.’ With this, the solution already has a strong foundation of potential value.
True added value
The process’ value is not only defined by the final output it can create, but also by the versatility and agility it offers throughout. ‘Alteryx includes a feature that lets users quickly customise individual tools throughout the script workflow, which allows for fast solution prototyping,’ Alexandru explains. ‘This decreases the time to get a working MVP and speeds up the learning and iteration process. Not only is this hands-on and practical, but it also means we can greatly reduce the time to market for solutions.’ This aligns very well with both companies’ agile values.
Furthermore, Tableau can be scheduled to adapt every time the Alteryx infrastructure is changed, so dashboards are always up to date. Jeroen agrees: 'value can only be gained when the users are able to constantly track what is going on within their data, and how it's being used to bring value to the company and its customers. Tableau enables everyone to be aware of the whole process, so they each become owners of it.’
The solution also provides another attractive benefit to clients. 'Due to the low-code feature of both software solutions, clients don't need to worry about spending big budgets on learning to use the software,’ Alexandru says. ‘It allows us to quickly train and transfer knowledge to our clients, which enables them to quickly get hands-on with the solution and take ownership of the process over the longer term. We feel that it's important not only to provide the solution, but also to empower the organisation to use it.’
